Natural Aids That Will Help You Sleep Better

There is nothing quite as relaxing as a good night’s sleep, but getting a good night’s sleep is often easier said than done. With so much to do, and so little time, many of us compromise on sleep, while others are troubled from sleeplessness or impaired sleep because of anxiety and strain. Apart from leaving you irritable and in a bad mood the following day, the lack of sleep is damaging to your health.

There are steps that you can take to improve the quality and duration of sleep and they include:

1. Eating Cherries Or Drinking Cherry Juice:

Cherries are an excellent natural source of melatonin – a hormone that regulates natural sleep pattern and helps reduce stress. Eating cherries or drinking cherry juice around bedtime really makes great sense.

2. Moderate Exercise:

This helps tax the body, so that it wants rest at night. You can include light or rigorous physical activities, depending on your levels of fitness. If you can’t go for walking, cycling, swimming, or to a gym, you can even try simple yoga or Pilates exercises at home.

3. Prepare For Sleep:

If sleep disturbances occur regularly, you should first take note of your sleep and wake schedule It would make sense to get ready for bed at least half an hour earlier. During this time you should relax your mind and body. Listening to soft music and doing some light reading can also help you get ready for bed.

4. Breathing Exercises:

There may be times when you want to fall asleep, but your mind is too cluttered to turn off. To clear your mind and prepare for sleep try some easy breathing exercises. You can even try meditative practices in yoga, as they help calm your senses.

These are just the few things you can try to help yourself sleep like a baby!
Most importantly, don’t try making your bed a place to drive away sleep like taking your phones to bed and using them while struggling to sleep; watching the TV or reading a book while in bed will also not help you especially when you do them at night. This habit will send the wrong messages to your brain. It will cause you to feel less sleepy most times when you jump into your bed to sleep.
