Causes of vaginal odour are:

1. Infection

2. Poor personal hygiene
3. Sexually transmitted diseases
4. Abnormal passageway between the rectum and vagina

1. Infection:

- Bacterial Vaginosis:
A typical type of infection that can cause vaginal odour is bacterial vaginosis. The vaginal normally contains bacteria which are originally harmless.
However, an increase in growth of these bacteria leads to bacterial vaginosis.
- Yeast Infection
Yeast infection can also cause vaginal odour. Most of the yeast infections are caused by Candida albicans.
Just like in vaginosis, the problem is not the presence of Candida, but the increase in its growth.
Symptoms of yeast infection can be itching, vaginal discharge, inflammation and pain during urination.
It is estimated that 3 out of 4 women experience a yeast infection at one point or the other in their life.

2. Poor Personal Hygiene:

Good personal hygiene is important to keep the vaginal free from odour.
Poor hygiene around the vaginal can lead to inflammation of the area. This can cause a foul odour to ooze from the vaginal.

3. Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs):

Sexually Transmitted Diseases have also been linked to vaginal odour. An example of such STDs is trichinosis.
